A Season Of Peace?

As many prepare for what is referred to as the Holiday Season, Christians and non-believers alike get caught up in the scheduled hysteria and manufactured joy of religion and traditions. Peace on earth is declared by mankind to celebrate Santa Claus, elves, trees decorated with tinsel and lights. Oh, let me not forget the supposed “reason for the season”: The birth Jesus Christ- the living hope that was gracefully given to us from God. Yes, apparently even God and Satan have called a truce over their eternal emnity in recognition of this flagrant festival of folly. Believers and non-believers alike, spending more than they can afford to spend on things that perish with use, for people they’d otherwise ignore, take for granted, or secretly despise. Based on a man-made calendar we foolishly get swept away by the forced and fleeting euphoria that declares that there is peace on earth. They conveniently forget that Satan is still the ruler of the world and there can be no peace between him and God. Nonetheless, the  pungent aroma of self righteousness and human pride is not to be outdone by our planned acts of kindness, that we shamelessly make known to everyone.  Christians, Atheist, homosexuals, Muslims, and Heathens all come together as one to honor dead, uprooted trees, flying reindeer, and a fat dude named Santa who, truth be told, is really the star of the occasion.  Goodwill toward all mankind, and for a little while, the world seems like a great place to be. As soon as the gifts have been opened and the eggnog is gone, as quickly as winter turns to fall, it’s back to business as usual. Christians go back to playing holier that thou; pointing the crooked finger of self righteousness at those who they just gave gifts to. Non-believers go back to hating Jesus Christ, the very one who the whole Christmas thing is named after. They call Christians hypocrites. Christians call them devils, and they go back to living as fierce enemies; that is, until next year…

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:34

Glory to God in the highest Heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:24
