“The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, my God.’ First He said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them’—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all”. Hebrews 10:1-10:

First, it is important to understand that the Law was given to man by Moses (who was deemed righteous and a friend of God) to guide man until the redeemer that was promised to Abraham appeared. We must further understand that religion (the way that people worship their higher power) came from the Law. The law had precepts of various sacrifices and rituals that men were required to follow based on their transgressions or occasion. Scripture clearly explained that the Law/Religion made no one righteous, but on the contrary, the Law/Religion made sin abound all the more (Romans 3:19-20 & 5:20). Hebrews 10:1-2 says, “The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins”. With that being said, Jesus came and sacrificed His body on the Cross so that we could be freed from the emptiness of the Law/Religion and forgiven of our sins once and for all. So, what am I getting at? Am I saying that our modern form of Religious/Law rituals are useless? Not completely, but I do question the fact that most that are committed to Religion/Law remain in their broken, mental, physical, financial and emotional state. The only thing that changes in their lives is their Pastor’s name or “their place of worship”, Jesus came that we have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Scripture says that where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom (2 Cor.3:17). God doesn’t want you to serve Him in a building that is made by man. God wants you be His Holy Temple that His Spirit dwells in (1 Cor 3:16). Isaiah 66:1-2 says; “Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool. Where is the house you will build for Me? Where will My resting place be? Has not My hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” Isaiah 1:13-17 says; “Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations—I cannot bear your worthless assemblies. Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow”. With all that being said, it is clear that routines, rituals and Law based religious acts has never, and will never please God or result in Salvation. Hebrews 11:6 says; “Without faith it is impossible to please God”, and faith isn’t found in the Law/Religion, faith is found in Christ Jesus, and demonstrated through the sacrifice of our worldly lives. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
